Salsa Bands Playing In Sydney

Club Havana Band:

Club HAVANA Band or ‘la BOMBA de Sydney’ as they are affectionally called by their ever increasing fan base is the Salsa sound of Australia, playing Salsa, Timba, Son, Songo, Cumbia, Cha cha cha and Boleros. They are particularly known for their fiery original & very danceable repertoire. They are considered to be Australia’s Premiere Salsa outfit (Latin Choice Awards 2000). The group has performed extensively throughout Australia & in recent years has graced stages overseas, including: Jambalaya Int. Fest (NZ). 06’. New Caledonia 04’. Armandito y su Trovason

This traditional seven piece Latin band features Cuban trumpeter Armando Garcia Perez. On stage, the band is characterised by a high energy, distinctively Cuban sound that blends traditional Cuban music with gifted improvisation. They spontaneously adapt the music to the audience which makes it impossible not to become involved. The addition of sophisticated vocal harmonies and dynamics creates a truly distinctive, fresh and exuberant sound. The band's repertoire includes all the popular Latin rhythms of Cuba , ranging from traditional to modern styles, like Son, Rumba, Conga, ChaChaCha, Bolero, Mambo and Salsa.


Gonzalo Porta & The Sydney Salsa All Stars

A 10 piece authentic Salsa band lead by Uruguayan composer and international singing sensat...ion Gonzalo Porta. Amongst Gonzalo's extensive musical credits, he has achieved 8 gold records with countless no# 1 hits throughout Latin America. Now based in Sydney, he has recently form The Sydney Salsa All Stars, a collection of some of Sydney's finest salsa musicians who have formed the backbone of countless influential Latin bands over the years. The band repertoire includes Gonzalo's own original salsa compositions as well as some of the biggest Salsa hits from around the world. Gonzalo's music is comparable to the rich and energetic Salsa movement that has been sweeping the Latino dance floors of New York City, Miami Beach, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Europe for years. The Salsa Kingz Band

Formed in 2002 exclusively to cater for the increasing demands of Australia's corporate events. Whilst the original band primarily focuses as a traditional Salsa band, the Salsa Kingz have added to the mix a wider range of party songs including hits from Disco and Rock n Roll era to todays today's Latino Pop Stars such as Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Gloria Estefan, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez.


Mi Tierra:

Mi Tierra is THE Latin American dance band known for playing exhilarating rhythms in salsa; merengue; mambo; bomba; cha cha and the latest Timba Cubana. Made up of 14 members, Mi Tierra's sound is characterised by a pulsating rhythm and amazing percussion section, layered with breathtaking vocals and tight punching horns. Mambo Asi :

(Sydney - Australia), "Mambo Asi" band has created quite a following. Whether your taste lies in the latest commercial music with a Latin feel or you prefer traditional Salsa, Merengue, Mambo, Cha cha cha or Cumbia, there is something for everybody's taste. But when it comes to hard core SALSA and TIMBA Cubana its hard to overlook this seven piece band with a sound more accustomed to a large Salsa orchestra (13 piece or more). Batuka:

Batuka was incorporated in the late 70's by Walter Garcia, a famous and talented bass player, who put together a fantastic 16 piece band bringing the best of latin american and latin rock to the public. Los Rumberos:

Los Rumberos is an 11 piece powerhouse Latin band featuring the cream of Melbourne's Latin musicians. With songs from Irakere, Charanga Habanera, Los Van Van and original tunes.
Rumberos plays tunes that no other band dares to try and play. Aimed at the sophisticated Latin music listener who can appreciate complex rhythms and arrangements, and to those who cant help but dance.


Carlitos Orchestra:

Concentrating mainly in the 'Salsa dura' (heavy or hard salsa) genre, this band composes its own original material but also plays a handful of well known classic favourite Salsa and Cuban songs, revamped into the bands original sound, comparable to the Salsa sounds sweeping the dance floors of New York City, Miami Beach, Colombia and Havana Cuba. Carlitos Orchestra is directed by Colombian composer Carlos Naranjo. Mucho Mambo:

Marsala:

Marsala covers some of the best music from Cuba, Colombia, Brasil, Russia, France, Italy, Spain, Zimbabwe, Senegal...They do Gypsy Music, Tango, Salsa, Samba, the African Township thing, French Rap, Italian Jazz, Tom Waits songs, Russian Folk songs... anything to make audiences feel passionately and dance beautifully. There performances are usually a magical feat. They create passion and romance where ever they go. Audiences can't help but dance and fall in love with each others traditions. Marsala is more of an institution than a band. It brings together the life work and study of some outstanding musicians. They bring together knowledge and understanding of various traditions and continue to explore and present 'the world' in music.
Samba Mundi:

Samba Mundi is a "funky multicultural collective" (Seth Jordan, ABC Limelight) of musicians based in Sydney, who play a style of Brazilian and Latin grooves with elements of Jazz and other World Music. They began as a trio in 2004 and have now evolved into an exciting and extremely groovy collection of 5 to 12 musicians. The band has performed at the Manly Jazz Festival, Bondi's South American Festival and popular city venues like the Hilton's Marble Bar, the Annandale Hotel, The Factory and The Vanguard. They have recently featured and closed the 2009 Bellingen Global Carnival. The band has played along with players from New York's prestigous Mingus Big Band and contemporary Brazilian artists Gabriel Grosso (Hamilton de Hollanda) and Daniel Santiago.
Espirito:

Espirito returns for another night of fattened Latin Funk and Soul Jazz with a dash of Hip Hop, High Energy, the roots and sounds of today's grooves. Influenced by Salsa, Rock, Jazz & R&B, where Latin meets groove! Noel Elmowy (Keys) and Christopher Soulos (Bass) are proud to present Australia's foremost Latin Jazz ensemble. They have supported and toured with Dizzy Gillespie Allstars at the Entertainment centre, performed at Manly Jazzfest, Kyeemagh Jazzfest, Bondi Samba Carnival, Darling Harbour Latin Fest and Festival of Sydney and their members are associated and have performed with the likes of Al Jarreau, Count Basie, Chad Wackermann, (Frank Zappa), Wynton Marsalis, James Morrison, Ray Charles, Tommy Emmanuel and Germaine Jackson.
Sonido:

From the haunting sounds of the Andes to the rich rhythms and melodies of Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia and Mexico, Sonido has embraced all of Latin America as one. The ensemble features an exotic array of folkloric instruments such as the Charango, Zampona, Quena, Tumbadoras, Cajon, Harp, Cuatro, Tiple and Guitar mixed with contemporary instruments such as the drum kit, keyboards and acoustic bass. Known for their open-minded musical approach, Sonido continues to explore the indigenous cultures of Latin America and beyond. For three decades Sonido’s music has intoxicated audiences around the globe. They are regarded as one of the top exponents of Latin American music, constantly invited to major festivals and events around the world.

Salsa Rica:

Salsa Rica has been created as a band for dancers. They know how to get the dancers excited. Salsa Rica play the finest New York and Puerto Rican style salsa. For the dancers out there, this is the best music for dancing On1 LA Style and On2 New York style salsa. You won't have to stand around wondering what is going on while the band plays some bizarre african rhythm for 10 minutes while you and your partner decide to take a "merengue break".
